Having updated the Philips Daily Care app, we were later asked for guidelines for how we created this icon, so that other icons in the Philips app library might be updated in the same way.

Building a library
from just one icon

Creating guidelines from a single icon
can lead to numerous possibilities for future icons. Knowing this, we took the time to first explore these possibilities, develop a visual language, and then ultimately create guidelines based off these hypothetical icons.

An ownable
design language

We were inspired by the existing library of icons, embracing the colours and foundations upon which each was based. We aimed to give them a fresh lease of life so they might seem more up-to-date, and uniquely Philips'.

Designs that
fit their function

We defined a design style that is uniquely Philips’, and ensured that it was not only applicable across their whole library of apps, but also versatile enough to be used across a range of use cases, such as for animation, or a smart watch screen.
